FAQ: What does NAOMI COMPLIANT mean to you, the consumer? |
Regarding NAOMI COMPLIANCE with our Organic Mattresses: NAOMI also known as THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ORGANIC MATTRESS INDUSTRY is THE standard of the highest quality organic bedding you can buy. In the United States, a mattress only has to be 95% organic to qualify as organic. Ours are 100% organic because if you are going to be claiming that something is safe it better be real organic. We have too many clients with MCS to deal with any manufacturers that do not meet these highest standards! Don't be fooled by supposed organic baby mattresses at some box stores...they still have boric acid in them!
The only organic mattress manufacturer that I know of that are superior quallity and NAOMI compliant is PURE REST ORGANICS. We carry all of those lines but specifically focus on PURE REST ORGANIC as our flagship product line.
Following are the standards for NAOMI COMPLIANCE:
1. Must be free of synthetic fabrics
2. No fabrics may be treated with any chemicals suspected of being toxic, even at low levels
3. All wool must be from sheep raised according to organic standards
4. Wool must be processed according to organic standards and be free of Polyester fibers. This requires that the wool is processed at a facility that does not process polyester or chemically laden cotton batting
5. Any wool used must be tested free of arsenic and lead
6. All inner, hidden fabrics and fibers, must be certified according to organic standards
7. All cotton batting used must be certified organic and processed according to organic standards
8. Any other natural fibers used must be certified organic (cotton, silk).
9. Fibers used must also be processed according to organic standards, no chemical processing allowed
10. Any rubber used must be tested free of benzene, toluene, pthalates, SBR, petroleum additives, formaldehyde, arsenic, lead at under .001 ppm
11. Any glue used must be free of formaldehyde, phenolated compounds and must be disclosed
The only exceptions are: thread, metal springs, rubber as these have no certifications in the works anywhere in the world. By following these standards we are trying to make it clear to a consumers which is an organic mattress and which is a "natural" mattress.
If a manufacturer cannot meet these standards, they are considered a "natural" mattress manufacturer. If they meet or exceed these standards, they would be an organic mattress manufacturer. This standard protects consumers from end products that may not be as pure as the customer believes.
HERE IS THE BOTTOMLINE THAT I AM STATING: Please do not purchase a mattress that is not verifiably organic according to NAOMI STANDARDS. If they don't tell you it is and cannot prove it, then move on. I care alot about my clients and am looking our for your very best. If you see a lower price on any of our products or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through this form, we will beat lower prices if they do not violate the manufacturers pricing policy. If we didn't follow their rules we would lose our account. Modloft products are not allowed to be discounted, if you see a lower price they are violating their contract with modloft. Please play by the rules and also help out our local family business with your patronage, it really is greatly appreciated.
